Lisa Jones spent decades thinking that great writing was only produced by lonely people in garrets, but teaching her classes has made her understand some of the best writing is born in an inclusive atmosphere that encourages laughter and self-forgiveness. She is the author of the award-winning memoir, BROKEN: A Love Story (Scribner, 2009.) She has also had essays and articles published in The New York Times magazine, Tin House, Smithsonian, Salon and NPR. She has taught creative writing for 14 years.
