A Gift For You, In Thanks!

Dear Friends,

First and foremost and from the bottom of my heart, thank you SO MUCH for making my recent book launch so joyful. More than 160 of you came to the virtual event hosted by Moon Palace Books. Maggie Smith and Michele Filgate gave lovely readings, Brianna Lane’s music was luminous, Sheila O’Connor was a superb moderator, and I was a very happy writer!

I am overjoyed with the warmth of my community right now—your presence at events, book orders and reviews, texts and posts and emails—and I’d like to extend a small thanks by way of a signed bookplate for anyone who would like one, just as a way to show my gratitude. All you need to do is send your mailing address to me (just reply to this email) and I will pop one in the mail for you. It’s a small token, but they are pretty cute!

I’m especially relieved and grateful that so many of you have posted reviews on Amazon! It’s such a giant help! I never knew just how influential Amazon is regarding a book’s future, and it feels victorious, somehow, to stand tall with a small press book! So, thank you. And if you haven’t posted a review but are willing to, you can share your thoughts (can be short and simple!) in a few minutes right here. Another huge help to all small-press writers is requesting their books at your local library and or independent bookstore.

For those of you who love events, I have two this week: a short reading tonight, Tuesday, at 6:30 Central with several other writers at The Inner Loop Reading Series, which you can join here, and then Thursday at 6 Central, a reading plus Q & A on the art of memoir with 1455 Author Series, which you can join via Zoom with this invite. And there are many more events scheduled through the rest of February and March and into the spring, most of which are now posted on my website here.

Lastly, a word about hope. Which is to say that even though we’re in a deep freeze here in Minnesota and my husband is as we speak thawing a pipe in our basement, I see a glimmer of warm light on the horizon, I really do. We’ve all been through so much in this past year, and I know the road ahead is not going to be easy. There’s so much work to do. But it’s feeling possible, somehow, as the vaccine distribution gradually improves and we turn ever so slowly toward spring.

With love,

Jeannine
